Stout & Co

While a stay at Stout & Co is a guaranteed good night of sleep, there is just so much more to say about this Amsterdam bed & breakfast.
Stout & Co. is the brainchild of Steven and Stefan, a landscape architect and an interior designer respectively. Together they have transformed a former brewery into a lively and original living space: on the ground floor they have their studio, the b&b can be found on the first floor and on the second floor Steven and Stefan’s loft is being built.

During the weekend, the atmosphere is calm and cosy, while on weekdays it must be an experience to get a glimpse of the hustle and bustle of a vibrant architecture’s office. The studio is open for guests, who are invited to come and take a look at what they are up to.

As for sleeping, there are five similar yet unique rooms, each themed around a different colour. From walls and sofa, to magazines and flowers: everything matches perfectly. Being designers themselves, Stefan and Steven have done almost everything themselves and have put a lot of thought in all the little details, making you feel at home at once. A home with Eames chairs, Aesop toiletries and custom-made lamps and closets, that is. Many of the objects presented in the rooms are from upcoming Flemish designers, as is the sleek branding, done by Ghent-based studio DIFT.
Last but definitely not least, when staying at Stout you also get a delicious breakfast. Freshly made bread, soft-boiled eggs and fresh juice make getting up a little bit easier.

If you thought that running two studios, a b&b and simultaneously building your own house sounds like a lot of work, Steven and Stefan are not stopping here. They are planning to open a bakery as well, which will open up the studio to the neighbourhood and local residents.

The area Stout & Co. is located in is a bit more residential, but this does not mean that it’s not worth exploring. On the contrary, the characteristic houses and intimate streets have more to offer than you’d think, making this into the perfect, relaxing base for exploring. Must-visit sights in the neighbourhood are conveniently painted on the wall in the breakfast room, making planning ever so easy.

When staying here, you get more than just a bed to sleep in. In everything they do – whether it’s welcoming their guests, developing a high-end interior or constructing a state-of-the-art sea bank – you can feel that Stefan and Steven are passionate about what they do. Stout & Co definitely has a story to tell, and they would very much like to share it with you.
